Which Expansion Projects Transform JNPT Capacity?

Vadhavan Port development creates India’s deepest container terminal nearby. Furthermore, this greenfield project adds 23 million TEU capacity. Deep-draft berths accommodate ultra-large 25,000 TEU vessels.

JNPT SEZ Phase II expansion increases container handling capacity. However, automated terminals reduce turnaround time to 12 hours. Also, berth optimization projects improve operational efficiency substantially.

Western Dedicated Freight Corridor connects JNPT with Delhi NCR. Meanwhile, double-stack container trains reduce logistics costs significantly. Certainly, electrified rail infrastructure supports sustainable operations environmentally.

Coastal shipping development enables domestic container movement efficiently. For example, connections to Kandla, Chennai, and Kolkata ports. Besides, cabotage relaxation attracts foreign shipping lines increasingly.

Reading this as someone who works in supply chain consulting, the JNPT operating at 90% capacity is genuinely scary for Indian exporters. Vadhavan absolutely needs to come online before 2030 or we’re going to see serious bottlenecks for textiles and pharma. Glad to see the dry ports at Jalna and Wardha mentioned too, those often get forgotten in the headlines.
